Same with bananas. Red shell will follow the closest enemy, depending wether you shoot it forward or backwards. It will try to stick to the track, but will be destroyed by colliding with anthing, so sharp turns can easily ruin it.” He drops the banana as he grabs another pickup “And Blue Shell is the ultimate tool of FUCK YOU to whoever is in the first place. It will launch from you and fly along the track at high speed. If it collides with anyone it will trip them and keep going. Upon reaching the player in first place it will spiral around their head and then smash onto them, causing a huge exposion and stopping the player for a good bit before they can go again.”

“oh, okay, I think I understand.“ Kate nods “Well, I guess you can’t use the blue shell on me then.“ she giggles lightly as she drives over a pickup “But I guess we’ll see how well it works when I use one on you.“ she grins “Hey, was this the game with the time slowdown clock pickups or was that the Crash Bandicoot karting game?“

“Well, I can’t even get it. I am very likely to get the green shell or banana, with a lower chance of getting a pickup capable of destroying the blue shell, and extremely low chance to get a turbo mushroom. What items and with what chance you can get depends on your position, but most importantly, your distance from the leader” He explains then adds “And that was Crash Bandicoot.”

“Press and hold B, similair as to most games, the brake is reverse” he nods “And well, there is one more trick” he currently has a banana in his item box, Kate can see it appearing behind his Kart and staying with him “If you hold the L or ZL, the item will appear behin you, ready to fire. He smiles and races her fully again now “It’s either of the left shoulder buttons” He jumps over a ramp, getting a small boost, then drifting around a curve, which also builds up a boost for him.

“Thanks.“ she smiles as she drops a banana while following him over the ramp, not doing any drifting. “Man you’re fast. Do I need to switch gears or something?“

He chuckles “Well, no, that’s what the R and ZR do. If you go over a ramp like that” he says it as he is going through one “And jump at the very last moment, you will get a boost when you land” and it does happen.

“Ooh. Nice.“ she smiles as she just keeps chasing after him “Hehe… I really need to learn all these things if I want to catch up to you.“ she giggles

“Hehe~ Yeah” He smiles “Now look, when you press and hold the jump button, after you land from the jump you will start drifting” He shows it as he approaches a curve and goes into drift, a moment later blue spark appear behind his Kart “As you drift you build up your boost, when it’s blue it’s a rather short one” then after even more they change to orange. He lets go of the button and receives a longish boost “but if it becomes orange, it’s significantly longer, but it’s not easy to get it. Depends on how sharp you are drifting and for how long. The sharper the turn, the less time for it to build up”

“Wow… There’s some serious mechanics behind this game…“ Kate replies, her jaw almost dropping, lookinga rt Pewny drive for a bit as she drives into a wall, then she looks back at her own screen. “Uhm… How do I drive backwards?“

“Oh… sorry about that, starting with a boost is something of a habit for me now” He nods, slowing down a bit so Kate can catch up, as it’s not exactly fair with her not knowing that “If you hit gas too early you will overheat. But if you do it around when the second light shows up, it will start you up with a boost. If you do it too late you won’t explode, but you won’t get the boost either.”

“Huh… I had no idea…“ she nods as she catches up to him. “I’m gonna have to try that nex time.“ Then she rides over one of the pickups “What’s the button to fire these again?“

“Heck, I don’t know… I don’t have the game myself… All I know is that Rainbow Road is really hard and blue shells are evil.“

His room is pretty much same size as Kate’s, under the desk in the room she can spot a desktop computer with a Wii U laying on top of it, and on the desk itself a monitor. The room is somewhat cluttered with various stuff, a tool laying somewhere randomly, some underwear in one spot.

Kate blushes lightly when she sees the underwear, but tries to ignore it and looks at the tools instead. “Well, you weren’t kidding. I guess.“ she giggles lightly “So uhm… do you mind if I sit on the bed?“

“Of course not, go ahead Kate” He smiles as he turns on the monitor, speakers and grabs the Wii U’s gamepad and a pro controller “Which one do you preffer?”

“Considering I haven’t used either yet?“ Kate replies “I think I’ll go with the pro controller, since that seems more similar to a normal controller, I guess.“
