“Well, it was gonna be a 2 player thing, where you can either work together with someone to escape or try to escape without the other. Though you wouldn’t actually be able to interact with the other until the end, since the other player was supposed to be on the other side of the island… Well, it’s in a sort of crescent shape, so you’d be able to see eachother at the start.“

“Oooooh, so multiplayer was intended as a core gameplay element, I can understand now why it was prioritized. So what exactly was the problem? Unity isn’t really set for making this thing easy?”

“Well, the system we used for making the 2D guis, which need to be seperate for each player, doesn’t really work that well with the system we were using for the networking.“

“So it was a matter of conflicting systems huh, well I can see what were the cause of the proble- shit!” He moves in the game and falls from the mushroom into the water

“Well alright, so quickly, how does the crafting work here?” He tries a few keys to open up a full inventory screen, assuming there is one.

“Yes.“ she says as the screen appears as a hotbar would usually look, with 10 slots, one for each of the numbers on the keyboard. “See? You’ve already got a few items. There’s a only a few recipes in it, though. You can make a torch and a backpack. Well, those are the only things that actually do anything useful… Though I had made recipes for making an axe, I think. Uhm… You can basically click on an item to pick it up and then move it around. You can right click on another object to combine them.“

“Rather intuitive, I will say” He nods and picks up a stick with the mouse and then tries to combine it with various items to produce the torch, and also if anything else can be created using it.

He manages to combine a stick and some rope into a torch. And some rope and leaves into a backpack. “Alright, now if you right click with the backpack selected, you can equip it and you’ll gain another row of space to put stuff in… Yeah, we were gonna put in more items if we had had more time. Like ladders and stuff.“

He laughs “Oh you sly little, not even warning me this is completely unwinnable huh.” He shakes his head but smiles “It is interesting however, I will give you that. Good work.”

“Well, I did say it wasn’t completely finished, didn’t I? So uhm… have you tried the crafting system?“

“You did say that, but I thought that escaping from this island is one thing, and there is more after and that was not finished. Any way, no, I didn’t yet, but I think I can, considering I am not dead. Yet.”

“Well, that’s the part I spent pretty much all of my time on that weekend. That and trying the inventory to work with the multiplayer thing. That’s basically where the problems were.“

“Uhm yes, it’s something like that, I think. It’s kind of like a spring.“

“I see then” He looks around the game world again “Well shit… I don’t think I am surviving it this time”

“Hehe, yeah. Well, seeing as not everything is in it, you can’t actually build the raft and win yet.“ she says “I also don’t think we ever put actual drowning in. But it is possible… I can’t quite remember. Maybe it resets once the whole island is flooded. I am pretty sure there was something that resets it.“

“Well, it’s a unity thing that happens when your player has one of those pill shapes… You basically flick the mouse and that will launch you into the air.“

“Well that’s an annoying bug then, will need to remember to avoid using objects in this shape” He says and tries to find a way to jump on top of the giant mushroom.

“Yeah, it might be an idea to use a sphere as a collison box for general moving around. Or make it not turn in ways that would tilt it.“ she says as she watches him play. The water has been slowly rising all this time and some mushrooms are already under water.

“So tilting is what does it? I guess too much to process and it gives up” He manages to stomp the mushroom, not noticing himself the water raised already.

“Well, it’s tilting it and then putting it back upright. So basically, because of gravity, you pusy down on the ground.“ she replies “It depends on how fast you do it too.“

“Well, you could break the mushrooms to get sticks from them. You were supposed to make a raft before the island sank into the sea and you drowned.“
